Travel Drink Tuesday- Glühwein

Jan 9th, 2018

During the heart of winter, there's nothing quite like a mug of hot, spiced wine to keep the cold away. Or, if you're in Texas, a mug of hot, spiced win to sip and pretend you're cold. Here's a recipe for a traditional German glühwein with a slight variation. I use honey instead of sugar to add depth to the taste and to make the drink a tad healthier. Enjoy!

Ingredients

2 Bottles Red Wine (750 mL)

1/2 cup brandy

2 oranges, juiced

1 lemon juiced

1/4 cup honey

3 cinnamon sticks

8 cloves

1 cup water

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan and simmer on low for at least 30 minutes. Keep in mind that the longer you simmer, the more liquid and alcohol will evaporate.
